GROTON — Chief Arthur Cheeks is pleased to announce that the Groton Fire Department has been awarded a $17,923.50 grant through the Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant Program, administered by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security and the Department of Fire Services (DFS).

The funding has supported the purchase of safety equipment designed to enhance operational readiness and emergency response capabilities.

Groton Fire will use the funding to purchase vehicle stabilization struts to assist with motor vehicle crashes, personal floatation devices, and other water rescue personal protection equipment.

The grant received by Groton was among $5 million in grants provided to fire departments across the Commonwealth to improve firefighter safety.

“Having this safety equipment is essential when we are responding to rescue incidents,” said Chief Cheeks. ” Ensuring our department is fully equipped allows us to better serve our residents and the community. I would like to thank our state partners and the Department of Fire Services for awarding us this funding.”
