Newbury Fire Department Receives $15,500 State Grant to Improve Safety Equipment

NEWBURY — Fire Chief David Evans is pleased to share that the Newbury Fire Department was awarded a $15,500 grant through the Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant Program, administered by the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security and the Department of Fire Services (DFS).

The funding has supported the purchase of safety equipment designed to enhance firefighter protection, operational readiness, and emergency response capabilities.

The Newbury Fire Department will use the funding to purchase three complete sets of turn out gear.

This gear includes pants, jackets, hoods, gloves and helmets. These items are essential to maintaining firefighter safety and ensuring personnel are prepared for a variety of situations.

The grant is administered on a cost-reimbursement basis, with reimbursement requests submitted by July 24, 2026.

“We’re very grateful to the Commonwealth for this investment in our department,” said Chief Evans. “This grant allows us to equip our personnel with modern, reliable protective gear that directly enhances their safety and effectiveness on the scene.”
