CANAAN — Superintendent Amanda Isabelle and Athletic Director Stephen Stebbins proudly announce that the Mascoma Regional High School field hockey team has received the New Hampshire Interscholastic Athletic Association Community Spirit Award for public service.

Team members under the direction of Coach Danielle Pushee helped a senior resident in Grafton who needed assistance in August. Team members stacked a wood supply for the winter, and repositioned the stack so it would be easier to reach. The team also helped the homeowner clean out their bedroom by moving items to the basement.

Participating team members were Ann Buffington, Evie Bennett, Eleanor McGrody, Samantha Harkins, Anna Emmerson, Hailey Miller, MaKenna Houston, Georgia Kondi, Aubrey Meyveagaci, Myah Crandall, and Jillianne Ballou. They plan to return in the coming months to assist with other tasks.

“It was so impressive that the girls took on this project on the day before a double session that began at 6 a.m.,” Coach Pushee said. “They will continue to build a bond with their new friend, and can see the profound impact they have on one person’s life.”

The NHIAA Community Spirit Award recognizes one high school sports team each month. Award sponsor Eastern Propane is donating $100 to the girls field hockey team to continue its community service and fundraising activities.

“It is exciting to see how the team embraces the Mascoma culture of making a difference beyond the game. They will carry the lessons they learn for the rest of their lives,” Superintendent Isabelle said.
