Milan Village School Participates in Annual Bike-A-Thon/Walk-A-Thon Fundraiser

MILAN – Superintendent David Backler and Principal Amy Huter are pleased to announce that the Milan Village School participated in its annual Bike-A-Thon/Walk-A-Thon Fundraiser.

Milan Village School hosted the school’s annual Bike-A-Thon/Walk-A-Thon fundraiser on Sept. 16.  This is a schoolwide tradition that began over 40 years ago.

Participating students rode their bikes from the Milan Village School to Berlin Regional Airport, which is about a mile ride there and back. Students who chose not to ride their bikes were able to participate by walking around the baseball diamond located behind town offices.

Milan Village fifth and sixth graders had the option to participate in the ‘Big Dog Ride’,  a 12-mile bike ride around the Dummer Loop, which is a neighborhood loop near the school.

As part of the fundraiser, community members, families and friends pledged to sponsor a student and donate a select amount of money of their choosing for each lap walked or mile ridden. People could also donate a set amount to the fundraiser.

Students raised over $5,500, which will help fund school field trips, the Winter Carnival, field days and family fun nights.

Local organizations who helped coordinate the fundraiser include Department of Transportation, Berlin Police Department, Milan Village School Parent Teacher Organization (PTO) and Milan Village School staff.

“Our annual Bike-A-Thon/Walk-A-Thon is a wonderful way to get together as a school community and raise money for a variety of programs here at Milan Village,” said Principal Huter. “This event allows students to get outside and participate in interactive activities such as walking or riding their bikes. I want to thank everyone who pledged and donated money or their time to this great event. It was wonderful to see so many students participate and really enjoy themselves.”
