GORHAM – Ed Fenn Elementary School Principal Tina Binette is pleased to share that students recently took part in the school’s traditional winter sports program.

The program, which is in its 30th year, takes students out of the classroom and exposes them to nature in their own backyard by connecting them with the White Mountains and winter sports. The school takes students to the White Mountains, where they engage in different activities based on their grade level.

The outings took place from the end of January into February.

First graders took to the hills and participated in sledding with their teachers. Second graders went ice skating and snowshoeing. Third graders also went snowshoeing and cross-country skiing at Great Glen. Fourth and fifth graders are able to  choose between snowshoeing, cross-country skiing at Great Glen and downhill skiing and snowboarding at Wildcat Mountain.

“Getting the students to experience the nature that surrounds us in new ways that engage them physically is something we all look forward to each year,” Superintendent Backler said. “The students are able to get a little more adventurous as they get older and they always look forward to what’s available to them in the next grade up, while connecting them with the winter sports culture that’s such an important part of our region.”
