145 Kids Ages 5-11 Receive COVID-19 Vaccine at Easton Clinic

EASTON — Chief Justin Alexander, Superintendent Lisha Cabral, Director of Health and Community Services Kristin Kennedy and Public Health Officer/Firefighter Tim Vamosi are pleased to share the success of last week’s COVID-19 vaccination clinic for kids. 

The Dec. 17 clinic hosted at Easton Middle School was a partnership between the Easton Fire Department, the Department of Health and Community Services and the Easton Community Health and Paramedicine program, as well as Brewster Ambulance.

A total of 145 kids ages 5-11 received the Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccine.

“We were pleased to be able to offer Easton families a convenient opportunity for their child to receive the vaccine, which is an important protective measure to help prevent serious illness associated with the COVID-19 disease, especially as cases rise around the region,” Public Health Officer Vamosi said.

Landon Dumican, age 6, and Jada Dumican, age 11, both received their first dose Friday. Both Landon and Jada said they’ve gotten shots before, so sitting down for the COVID-19 vaccine and the little pinch that comes with it was what they had expected. 

They were accompanied by grandma, Heidi Smith-Pento, who said the family was pleased when Landon and Jada became eligible. 

“It’s a long time when you have to quarantine,” she said. “There’s enough going on that we don’t need something extra to worry about.”

Max Bowles, age 7-and-a-half, said his arm was hurting a little after the shot, but once fully vaccinated he was going to be excited to be able to go more places without a mask in the future, including the Apple store. 

Max’s mom, Kristin, said she was a little apprehensive at first, but decided it was a good idea for Max to be vaccinated with cases rising in the region. She added that they were looking forward to feeling more secure in public.

Aidan Berg, age 8, and Nolan Berg, age 6, were accompanied by dad, Drew, who said their family was excited when Aidan and Nolan became eligible, and that the Easton Middle School location was very convenient.

“Right when they became eligible, we signed them up,” he said. “We were going to go to Brockton, but it was so much easier when this Easton location was announced.” 

Aidan and Nolan are both excited to not have to wear masks, eventually, as well as to see family for the holidays. 

“Public Health Officer Vamosi did a great job coordinating the clinic, and we are grateful to our partners who helped with organizing and hosting,” Chief Alexander said. “We’re proud to have been able to offer this opportunity for some of our youngest residents to receive the vaccine.”

Added Superintendent Cabral, “The COVID-19 vaccine helps to ensure the health and safety of our school community, especially as winter break approaches, and we were happy to join our town partners in hosting this clinic.” 

“Getting vaccinated is a fundamental way to keep ourselves, our loved ones and our community safe,” Director Kennedy said. “We continue to see a rise in COVID-19 cases and the emergence of variants, which makes vaccinating as many of our eligible residents as possible all the more important.”
