SUDBURY – Goodnow Library wishes to inform the public about its successful return to limited in-person service last week and announces addition of Saturday hours.

More than 100 total patrons visited the Library on Tuesday, April 6, and Thursday, April 8, marking the first time in more than a year that the Library was able to open due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic.

“I sat at the greeter table all day and it was wonderful to welcome folks back to the library,” Library Director EsméGreen said. “People were so happy. We hope to progressively expand services when it is feasible and safe. It was wonderful seeing some of our patrons again and hope to see more patrons in the weeks to come.”

Goodnow Library is open to the public on Tuesdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Thursdays from 2-7 p.m. In keeping with its commitment to expand hours when state and federal guidance allows, the library also will be open for in-person use Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., starting Saturday, April 17.

The Library also maintains special hours for patrons 65 or older with underlying health conditions. Those hours are Tuesdays, 10-11 a.m., and Thursdays, 1-2 p.m.

During in-person hours, patrons may browse and check out materials on the first floor, pick up items on hold, ask librarians for help, and request or replace a library card.

No appointment is necessary, though only 25 patrons will be allowed inside at once. Patrons do not have to show their library card to enter but are asked to have it available to limit their time at check-out.

The library instituted the following protocols to ensure maximum safety for patrons:

  • Masks and social distancing of 6 feet are required.
  • Marked one-way aisles will guide foot traffic.
  • New signage will help patrons with self-checkout and book return.
  • The second floor will be closed, along with meeting and study rooms. Congregate areas will be cordoned off. Many services will not be available, such as computers, scanners and printers.

Contactless curbside appointments will continue on Mondays and Wednesdays, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 1:30 to 4:30 p.m., and Fridays and Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Appointments for curbside pickup may be made here. Patrons who wish to cancel an appointment may do so here by choosing “manage existing pickup.”

Patrons who have difficulty with curbside arrangements may email the Library at goodnow@sudbury.ma.us, or by calling the library at 978-440-5530.
