Manchester-by-the-Sea Police and Massachusetts State Police Investigating Suspected Hoax Incident

No Active Threat to the Community

MANCHESTER-BY-THE-SEA– Chief Todd Fitzgerald reports the Manchester-by-the-Sea Police Department and Massachusetts State Police are investigating after a call for a possible barricaded subject in a home was determined to likely be a hoax.

At approximately 1 p.m. today, Manchester-by-the-Sea Police received a call reporting that someone was inside a residence on Mill Street and that an individual was possibly injured with a self-inflicted wound.

Manchester-by-the-Sea Police responded alongside the Essex Police Department and Troopers and a K-9 unit from the Massachusetts State Police and a perimeter was established. The house in question is known to Manchester-by-the-Sea Police as an abandoned residence. 

Police officers, however, were quickly able to make entrance into the residence where it was discovered no one was inside, and it was determined that there was no danger.

At this time there is no active threat to the community.

Manchester-by-the-Sea Police are investigating this incident as a possible hoax, “swatting” incident. No additional information is available at this time.
