East Bridgewater Board of Selectmen Approves Two Applications to Connect Local Businesses to Town Sewer System

EAST BRIDGEWATER — The East Bridgewater Board of Selectmen is proud to announce that two local businesses will soon be hooked into the town’s sewer lines, serving to expand the commercial opportunities in the town.

The Board of Selectmen approved two applications for sewer connection at the Friday, Dec. 18 virtual meeting that will connect two businesses on Route 18 to the town’s wastewater treatment facility. The first is Dewhurst Lumber at 215 Bedford St., and the second is Subway at 203 Bedford St.

“It’s been a few years that we’ve been working to start connecting businesses in town to the municipal sewer lines, and we are pleased that the first locally-owned properties have reached an agreement with the town sooner than we expected,” said Selectman Peter Spagone, Jr. “This is really a win-win, as it will allow the system to expand and will also allow for commercial growth in the area. This board is always looking for ways to work hand-in-hand with the business community, and this is a real example of that in action.”

The wastewater treatment facility currently serves the East Bridgewater Fire Station, East Bridgewater High School, Central Elementary School and the Bedford Street CVS. The applications approved Friday were submitted by Dewhurst Lumber owner Jeff Dewhurst, who owns each of the two buildings that will soon be connected.

Dewhurst will now work with engineers to move the process of joining the system forward.

The process of connecting local businesses to the town’s sewer lines was overseen by the town’s Wastewater Treatment Advisory Board, which includes Department of Public Works Director John Haines, Planning Board Director Roy Gardner and Health Agent Robert Philbrick.

“It means a lot for this project to finally start coming to fruition,” Director Haines said. “Now that we have these two properties agreed to be added to the system, we look forward to continuing to work with local businesses to expand the system even further.”
