SWANSEA – The Town of Swansea and the Swansea Board of Selectmen regret to announce the passing of former Town Administrator John F. McAuliffe.
McAuliffe served as Town Administrator beginning in 2015, retiring earlier this year. His distinguished public service career spanned 27 years. Prior to retiring in Swansea, he served as Town Administer in the Massachusetts communities of Boylston, Somerset, Wareham and Webster.
He was known for his generosity and willingness to make time to listen to and understand the citizenry of the towns where he lived and worked. His knowledge and experience of municipal government and his enthusiasm for the job earned him tremendous respect and reverence from his colleagues and the communities in which he served.
“John was an extraordinary Town Administrator and friend to all of us here in Swansea,” said Select Board Chairman Christopher Carreiro. “John’s tenacity and desire to make Swansea the best it can become was evident throughout this community, but in particular by our beautiful Waterfront Revitalization Project. We will miss him. As colleagues and friends, and on behalf of the Town of Swansea, we offer our deepest sympathies to his family and friends.”
The Chairman of the Board of Selectmen has directed that all flags be flown at half-staff in remembrance of McAuliffe.
