Town of Cohasset Responds to Parent-Sanctioned Prom Gathering

No Confirmed COVID-19 Cases Have Been Reported as Result of Gathering

COHASSET — Town Manager Christopher G. Senior reports that the Town of Cohasset has been made aware of a gathering that occurred in Town involving a number of young people, where social distancing was apparently not followed nor face coverings used by those in attendance.

At this time, there have been no identified cases as a result of this gathering and Cohasset does not have an identified “COVID cluster.” This event was not sanctioned by the Cohasset Public Schools or Town of Cohasset.

The Cohasset Health Department received multiple calls earlier this week about a prom-like party hosted by Cohasset High School parents at a residence in Town on July 25th, where students were in close proximity to each other. Parents of at least some of the students were reportedly present as well. According to photos of the event that have surfaced on social media, many of those in attendance were not wearing face coverings and were not keeping six-foot social distancing. Approximately 29 students, plus a number of parents, are believed to have been in attendance.

In light of the outdoor graduation for Cohasset High School scheduled for Friday, August 7th, the Cohasset Board of Health has strongly encouraged the families of all students believed to have been at the party to get tested for COVID-19.

“While we have successfully re-opened local restaurants and shops in recent weeks, there is still a risk of exposure to COVID-19 and we must all remain vigilant in our fight against this disease,” Town Manager Senior said. “This includes wearing face coverings when in public spaces, maintaining proper social distancing, and practicing good hygiene at all times. We have seen how larger gatherings have led to outbreaks of the virus in other parts of the state and across the country, and we urge all residents to help keep Cohasset safe by following these common sense guidelines.”
