ROCHESTER — Chief Mark Klose is pleased to announce that the Rochester Fire Department has partnered with the American Red Cross to offer free smoke detectors and installation for residents in April.

The Rochester Fire Department, American Red Cross, Unitil Corporation and SERVPRO of the Seacoast have partnered together to conduct a Red Cross Home Fire Preparedness Campaign “rally day” event. The “rally day” event is part of the effort to help make homes safer and save lives by installing free smoke alarms and providing fire safety education within communities.

“The Rochester Fire Department is excited to partner with the American Red Cross to bring free smoke detectors and fire safety education to our residents,” said Chief Klose. “I can’t stress enough how important it is that all residents have working detectors in their houses. This campaign will allow us to take a proactive approach to fire safety and can help us prevent future fires and even save lives.”

Additionally, as part of the campaign, members of the American Red Cross will work with the Rochester Fire Department to offer residents valuable Emergency Preparedness tips and guidance in the creation of a Family Disaster Plan.

Installations on the “rally day” will take place on April 11, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.  An adult must be present at the home at the time of installation.

The Red Cross responds to a home fire or other disaster every 8 minutes. Since launching the campaign in 2014, the American Red Cross, working with fire departments throughout the country, has installed more than 700,000 smoke detectors.
