Maynard Fire Department Extinguishes Two-Alarm Fire

MAYNARD — Chief Anthony Stowers reports that the Maynard Fire Department quelled a two-alarm fire in an apartment last night.

On Monday, April 25, the Fire Department received multiple calls at 7:42 p.m. about a fire in apartment 7 at 149 Waltham St.

Engine 2 was first on scene and reported a working fire on the second floor of the multi-family home. A second alarm was ordered.

Maynard Police, along with Fire Departments from Stow, Acton, Concord, Sudbury, Wayland, Boxborough, Lincoln and the Professional Ambulance Services arrived on scene to assist. The Ashland Fire Department coordinated communication during the incident.

The fire was knocked down quickly and brought under control just after 8 p.m. It was contained to unit 7, which is not habitable at this time. Chief Stowers estimates damage to be around $25,000.

The cause and origin is still under investigation, but the fire is believed to have started in the kitchen.

No injuries were reported.

“The first arriving crews did a great job making a very aggressive attack and keeping  the fire from spreading beyond the unit of origin,” Chief Stowers said. “I commend all involved in this effort and thank our neighboring fire departments for their assistance.”
