ANDOVER – Chief Michael B. Mansfield is pleased to announce that Andover Fire Rescue hosted 5-year-old Andover resident Charlie Delaney for lunch yesterday.

Delaney, a pre-kindergarten student at St. Augustine’s School in Andover, was welcomed by Chief Mansfield then treated to a tour of the fire station and a pizza lunch with the firefighters. His visit was capped off by a ride in Engine 1.

Andover Fire Rescue donated the lunch with the Chief event to the St. Augustine School’s silent auction, which Delaney’s mother bid on and won for her son. Delaney aspires to be a professional hockey player, but told Andover Fire Rescue that he would consider becoming a firefighter if hockey doesn’t work out.

“It’s our pleasure to donate our time to kids like Charlie,” Chief Mansfield said. “He asked lots of questions about firefighting and was a very polite guest. We look forward to hosting more events like this in the future.”

Prior to leaving for the day, the department gave Delaney a gift bag of Andover Fire items and an open invitation to visit the fire station anytime.
