Andover Police Investigate Automated Bomb Threat Called into High School

ANDOVER — Chief Patrick Keefe and Superintendent of Schools Sheldon Berman report that Andover High School was one of many schools to receive automated telephone bomb threats early this morning.

Students and staff were evacuated from the building in an orderly and timely manner. Andover Police and Fire officials, working with school administrators, searched the building and ultimately determined that there was no danger.

The Andover Police Department and Andover Public Schools have forwarded all relevant information about today’s threat to the Massachusetts State Police.

The automated “robocall” telephone call came in at 7:34 a.m.

Andover Police are aware that several other cities and towns received similar threats today. Municipal and State Police are working with the Commonwealth Fusion Center to compile intelligence and other information.

Chief Keefe and Superintendent Berman praised the immediate communication, constant dialog, and close following of the established emergency protocols put in place to respond to these types of incidents. The efficient response and planning ensured that there was minimal disruption of the school day.

No one was hurt during today’s operation. Once the building was cleared, students returned and classes resumed for the day.
