RANDOLPH — The Randolph Fire Department responded to a multi-family home on Country Club Drive following reports of a house fire on Sunday morning.
A resident of 18 Country Club Drive, alerted by an activated smoke alarm, called 911 to report the fire at 9:54 a.m., Sunday, Sept. 13.
Upon arrival, fire crews observed smoke showing from the roofline, outside the home. They advanced a line to the second floor and found fire confined to the ceiling in a second-floor bathroom, with extension into the attic.
Randolph Fire crews quickly brought the fire under control.
The home’s four residents made it out safely. No injuries were reported, but all four residents have been displaced by the fire.
A preliminary investigation determined a small fire started in the bathroom’s exhaust fan.
The Holbrook and Avon fire departments provided mutual aid at the scene, while Braintree, Milton and Stoughton fire departments provided station coverage.
“In this case, the home’s smoke detectors did the job and helped our firefighters save lives,” said Fire Chief Paul C. Frew. “This could have been a very different situation if the residents didn’t get fair warning from their smoke detection system. I’d like to remind all residents to check their smoke alarms regularly to ensure they are fully functioning. Smoke detectors help us save lives.”
