Maynard Fire Departments Conducts Firefighter Training

MAYNARD — Maynard Fire Chief Anthony Stowers is pleased to announce that the Maynard Fire Department recently conducted two days of firefighter training for its newest employees.

The training primarily focused on driving the fire apparatus, operating the pumps, and maintaining the engines, as well as spotting and raising the aerial ladder. In addition, the department reviewed vehicle maintenance and the theories behind pumping practices. New firefighters gained extensive experience driving the fire apparatus, conquering different obstacle courses that simulated real-world emergency situations.

“This training is important to Maynard because we have replaced 50 percent of our firefighters in less than four years,” said Chief Stowers. “This training will give the newer members of our department a strong foundation that they can continue to build upon throughout their career.”

The training was conducted by Chief Stowers with the assistance of Captains Tim Gray, Peter Morrison and Sean Kiley, as well as senior firefighters Mark Tomyl, Jeff Boudreau and Craig Desjardins.
