Maynard Firefighter Placed on Administrative Leave

MAYNARD — Town Administrator Kevin Sweet reports that a Maynard firefighter has been placed on administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation into sexual abuse allegations that stem from alleged events in the early 1990s.

In a letter to the firefighter on Friday morning, Maynard Fire Chief Anthony Stowers requested that the firefighter not report to work and not come to any town buildings or facilities while the matter is under investigation “to allow the Town to conduct a proper, thorough and fair investigation into these allegations.”

An investigation is being conducted by the Maynard Police Department and the Town of Maynard in consultation with the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office into allegations made by a former town resident about sexual abuse that allegedly occurred in 1991.

This is an open and active investigation no further information, including the firefighter’s name can be released at this time.

“I am deeply disturbed by the allegations made, and a full and thorough investigation is underway,” Town Administrator Sweet said.

If anyone has any information or concerns, they are strongly urged to contact the Maynard Police Department at 978-897-1011.
