Armstrong Ambulance to Host Tactical Emergency Casualty Care Course

ARLINGTON — Armstrong Ambulance Service will host a Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (TECC) course for paramedics and tactical medics this August.

Monday, Aug. 19, and Tuesday, Aug. 20, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.

WHAT: 

Armstrong Ambulance is hosting a TECC course this August to provide first responders with an opportunity to enhance and develop their knowledge and skills for responding to trauma in an active shooter, civilian tactical or hazardous situation.

The course was developed by the National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT), and those that complete the program will be certified by the association in TECC. Armstrong serves as a tactical paramedic provider to the North Eastern Law Enfourcement Council (NEMLEC) S.W.A.T. team.

The two-day, 16 hour course will be led by Matthew Sterling, an instructor and National Association of Emergency Medical Technicians (NAEMT) Affiliate Faculty at Ridgeline Emergency Education Solutions, LLC. The course costs $276.95, which includes payment for an Individual First Aid Kit (IFAK) and the course book. To register for the course, click here. 

Participants should wear their service uniform and boots, or if they are a tactical medic, their tactical medic uniform.

The TECC program teaches its students to respond to civilian tactical incidents and hazardous situations using three phases of response as used by Tactical Combat Casualty Care (TCCC) trained military members in the war on terrorism in Iraq and Afghanistan: direct threat care, indirect threat care and evacuation. The NAEMT Pre-hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) Committee crafted the course, which is based on guidelines outlined by the Committee on Tactical Emergency Casualty Care (Co-TECC) and the TCCC program.

Students in the course will learn about hemorrhage control, surgical airway control and needle decompression, strategies for treating wounded responders in threatening environments, caring for pediatric patients and techniques for dragging and carrying victims to safer locations.

“This programming was carefully crafted to carry over the strategies implemented by TCCC trained military members to respond to trauma, and gives medical and emergency professionals the tools they need to rescue victims in the event of a tactical or hazardous emergency,” Armstrong CEO Rich Raymond said. “It’s incredibly important training for paramedics and tactical medics to have, and we’re happy to be able to host this course.”
