Whitman Fire Department Announces Promotion of Deputy Chief, Lieutenant
WHITMAN — Chief Timothy Grenno is pleased to announce the promotions of two members of the Whitman Fire Department.
Alfred Cunningham was promoted to Deputy Fire Chief and Nicholas Grasso was promoted to Lieutenant. Both were officially sworn in at a ceremony Tuesday night, July 9.
Deputy Chief Cunningham joined the department in 1995 as a call firefighter and was appointed to be a full-time firefighter in 1998. He most recently served as a lieutenant, a position he had held since 2009.
Deputy Chief Cunningham holds a degree from Columbia Southern University. He is certified as a Fire Officer I/II and has certifications as a fire instructor and paramedic and currently serves as the department’s training officer.
Lt. Grasso joined the department in 2000 as a call firefighter before being appointed as a full-time firefighter in 2004. He was most recently assigned as the Shift Commander of Group 4.
Lt. Grasso holds a degree from Columbia Southern University. He is certified as a Fire Officer I/II, is company officer strategy and tactics certified and is a certified paramedic.
“Both Deputy Chief Cunningham and Lt. Grasso stood out as exemplary candidates during the promotion process, and are very deserving of their respective promotions,” Chief Grenno said. “I am confident they will continue to serve our department and the Whitman community well, and I congratulate both of them on this next step in their respective careers with the Whitman Fire Department.”
