Fatal Shed Fire Under Investigation in Ashland
ASHLAND — Police Chief Craig Davis and Fire Chief Keith Robie report that the Ashland Police and Fire Departments today respond to a fatal shed fire outside a residence.
Firefighters and police officers responded to 124 Oak St. at approximately 1 a.m. for a report of a shed on fire outside a home. Firefighters arrived and found a wooden outdoor utility shed fully engulfed. They quickly extinguished the fire.
During the investigation, the body of what is believed to be an adult was found in the remains of the shed.
All residents of the home were previously accounted for. Officials are working to identify the body at this time. The body was removed from the scene early Monday morning and taken to the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner.
There were no immediate signs of foul play, and there have been past reports of homeless individuals taking shelter in the shed.
The origin and cause of the fire and the death investigation are being conducted by the Ashland Fire and Police Departments, the Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and the State Fire Marshal’s Office. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.
