Dover FFA Dairy Judging Team Wins State Competition

DOVER — The Dover School District is proud to announce that Dover’s FFA (Future Farmers of America) Dairy Judging Team earned first place at the Granite State FFA Fall Interscholastics on Oct. 8.

The competition took place at the University of New Hampshire, with the team consisting of Carly Wojotkowski, Paige Robins, Troy Dalrymple and Alaina Wright. Out of 78 total participants in the individual competition, Carly placed first, Paige placed third, Troy placed fifth and Alaina placed sixth.

Dover FFA was one of six chapters and schools to participate in the Dairy Judging Career Development Event (CDE). Participants are evaluated on their ability to judge classes of dairy cattle, present reasoning behind their decisions, evaluate pedigrees and linear scoring and complete a dairy management knowledge exam.

By winning the state-level competition, Dover FFA’s Dairy Judging Team qualifies to represent New Hampshire at the national level. The national competition will be held next year.

In addition to the dairy judging team’s success, the Dover FFA Chapter is celebrating its Poultry Evaluation team’s efforts at the 99th National FFA Convention and Expo held from Oct. 21 to 23. The team, consisting of Paige Robins, Carly Wojtkowski, Bella Lynch, and Kyla Randall, with student coach Josephine Lundborn, earned bronze in both the team and individual rankings as they competed against 41 other teams. During the competition, the team spent seven hours assessing birds or poultry products, giving oral reasons behind their decisions, completing general knowledge and problem-solving tests, and completing a team scenario.

Dover FFA alumna Raphaella Amaral also represented the chapter and New Hampshire as a National FFA Officer Candidate. Amaral made it to the second round of the selection process after a week of interviews and assessments. Dover FFA is proud of her efforts and inspiration to students across Dover and New England.

Additionally, Carrie Hough was awarded the Honorary American FFA Degree in recognition of her 19-year career as an agricultural educator and her longstanding support of Dover FFA and Granite State FFA. Her dedication and hard work have played an important role in shaping the Dover FFA chapter and supporting agricultural opportunities for students.

“We are incredibly proud of our students, alumni, and educators for the hard work and dedication they continuously show,” said Animal Science Teacher Katherine Green. “These are tremendous accomplishments, and we look forward to seeing all they continue to achieve through FFA.”
