CHELMSFORD — The Chelmsford Police Department is welcoming a lifelong Chelmsford resident who graduated from the Lowell Police Academy before being sworn in on Wednesday morning.
Officer Lindsay was recognized at graduation with the Academy’s EVOC Best Driver Award, which recognizes the most skilled emergency vehicle driver in the class.
On Wednesday, he was sworn in by Town Clerk Patricia E. Dzuris as family, friends, firefighters and police looked on. His badge was then pinned onto his uniform by his father, Keith Lindsay, a Chelmsford firefighter and Lowell paramedic, who has been serving the town for 25 years.
Officer Lindsay graduated from Chelmsford High School and earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice from UMass Lowell before graduating from the Lowell Police Academy on Friday.
“For Evan, a career in public safety is more than simply a career choice; it is a family tradition and a calling that began at a very young age,” said Chief Gary Hannagan. “Evan was inspired by his father, Keith, who has dedicated his career to serving others. His commitment to public safety has provided Evan with a firsthand example of what it means to dedicate your life to helping others. That commitment to service clearly runs in the Lindsay family, and we are proud that Evan has chosen to continue that tradition here with the Chelmsford Police Department.”
“Evan grew up in this community. He knows Chelmsford, he knows the people who live here, and he understands the importance of the relationship between our police department and the community we serve,” said Chief Hannagan. “I look forward to seeing where Evan’s career will take him, and what he will contribute to our community.”
