ACTON — The Acton Police Department is welcoming two new officers with unique educational and professional backgrounds who graduated last week from the Lowell Police Academy.
Officer James Barry and Officer Phannith Sann graduated on Friday, Oct. 9, from the Lowell Police Academy. They were sworn in by Town Clerk Leo Mercado on Tuesday morning, Oct. 13, and will now begin a 10-week field training program.
Officer Barry is a Marlborough native who graduated from Worcester Academy in 2018. He earned a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Lasell University, and a master’s degree in criminal justice from UMass Lowell, as well as a graduate certificate in domestic violence prevention from UMass Lowell.
Before joining Acton Police, Officer Barry worked as a paralegal for a Boston law firm, and completed an internship with the Worcester County District Attorney’s Office.
Officer Barry is an avid sports fan outside of work, and enjoys playing golf.
Officer Sann is a Lowell native with experience in customer service, management and youth programming, including work as a youth program coordinator at the YMCA in Lowell.
Officer Sann also enjoys sports outside of work, and is a big New England Patriots fan who enjoys staying active.
“These are two highly qualified officers, and I look forward to seeing what they contribute to the Acton community,” said Chief Douglas Sturniolo. “They each have a unique background and set of experiences that will add to our department and community.”
