Essex Police Arrest Sudbury Man Following Single-Vehicle Crash Into Utility Pole

ESSEX — Chief Thomas Shamshak Jr. reports that the Essex Police Department arrested a man following a single-vehicle crash that knocked down a utility pole early Saturday morning.

At approximately 5 a.m. on Saturday, July 11, Essex Police and Fire responded to Island Road after receiving a report of a motor vehicle crash.

Upon arrival, officers located a gray 2019 Volkswagen Atlas that had struck and snapped a utility pole.

Officers encountered an adult male near the crashed vehicle. During the investigation, the man refused to identify himself. Investigators later identified him as PETER BOZIER, age 34, OF SUDBURY, who was placed under arrest and charged with:

  • Negligent Operation of a Motor Vehicle
  • Operating a Motor Vehicle Without a License
  • Refusal to Submit to a Police Officer

BOZIER is known to police.

Police interviewed several individuals in connection with the crash. The circumstances surrounding the incident, including the involvement of those present, remain under investigation.

National Grid responded to replace the damaged utility pole. Island Road remained closed for several hours while crews completed repairs.

“Our officers quickly secured the scene and immediately began investigating the circumstances of this crash,” said Chief Shamshak. “We appreciate the assistance of the Essex Fire Department and National Grid in helping restore the roadway safely while the investigation remains ongoing.”

BOZIER is expected to be arraigned Monday in Gloucester District Court.

These are allegations. All defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
