LITTLETON — Five Littleton Public Schools students have been recognized with the Massachusetts Foreign Language Association (MAFLA) Award for Excellence in World Languages.
The annual award recognizes outstanding world language students across Massachusetts who have demonstrated exceptional achievement, proficiency and dedication in their language studies.
At Littleton High School, Kavya Kolukula received the award for Latin and Medha Sri received the award for Spanish. The students were nominated by teachers Liz Kelley and Margo Gillen, respectively.
At Littleton Middle School, Claire Whittaker received the award for French, Charlotte Gary received the award for Latin and Colin Conway received the award for Spanish. The students were nominated by teachers Maureen DiRusso, Tori Hicks and Amy Tetreault, respectively.
The awards were presented to Littleton High School students during Senior Awards Night on May 28 and to Littleton Middle School students during Eighth Grade Graduation on June 16.
Recipients of the Award for Excellence in World Languages are selected by their teachers and are recognized for outstanding achievement and commitment to mastering their chosen language.
“Learning another language opens doors to new cultures, perspectives and opportunities,” said Superintendent Dr. Kelly Clenchy. “These students have distinguished themselves through their coursework. We are proud of their accomplishments and grateful to our world language educators for inspiring a love of language learning.”
MAFLA is the professional organization for world language educators in Massachusetts and is committed to promoting linguistic and cultural proficiency among students across the Commonwealth.
“These awards celebrate the hard work and passion of students who excel in world language studies and inspire others to engage with different cultures,” said Amy St. Arnaud of MAFLA. “We are thrilled to recognize these outstanding students for their achievements.”
