Marblehead Police Seeking Public Assistance with Vandalism at High School Football Field

Vehicles Drove Recklessly Across Field; One Car Later Recovered Unoccupied at Grace Oliver’s Beach

MARBLEHEAD — Chief Dennis King and the Marblehead Police Department ask the public to share any information they may have about a Wednesday morning incident in which the Marblehead High School football field was damaged.

At about 5:40 a.m. on Wednesday, June 10, Marblehead Police responded to 2 Humphrey Ave. for a report that a vehicle had driven on Piper Football Field. Officers observed damage to the access gate of the field, as well as marks on the field that indicated vehicles had driven across it. The field did not sustain significant damage.

In a preliminary investigation, Marblehead Police determined that two vehicles were involved, and were able to get a description of both vehicles.

At about 11:10 a.m. on Wednesday, Marblehead Police responded to Grace Oliver’s Beach for report of a vehicle submerged in the water. Marblehead Police, with assistance from the Marblehead Harbormaster, immediately responded. An initial examination of the vehicle determined it was unoccupied. The Salem Police Dive Team was requested to assist.

The vehicle matched the description of one of the vehicles believed to be involved with the incident at the football field. An investigation determined that the vehicle was reported stolen. At this time, Marblehead Police believe that the two incidents are connected.

Marblehead Police is actively investigating to identify the person, or people, responsible. The investigation is being treated as a criminal matter, and police intend to issue charges.

Marblehead Police ask anyone who believes they have information that may assist the department’s investigation contact to the Marblehead Police Department at 781-631-1212, Det. Sgt. Sean Brady, sbrady@marbleheadma.gov, or School Resource Officer Sean Sweeney Jr., ssweeneyjr@marbleheadma.gov
