Arlington Police Respond to Incident Involving Stolen Motor Vehicle

ARLINGTON — The Arlington Police Department, with assistance from Massachusetts State Police, responded to an incident involving a stolen vehicle.

At about 2:58 a.m. on Wednesday, May 20, Arlington Police responded to a single vehicle crash at the intersection of Decatur Street and Arizona Terrace.

A red Nissan SUV that was later determined to be reported stolen out of Medford appeared to have crashed into a utility pole.

An investigation determined the operator of the SUV had ran from the scene after the crash. Arlington Police, with assistance from Massachusetts State Police and State Police K-9 units engaged in a search for the individual.

While searching for the individual, officers observed a blue Ford Explorer driving suspiciously in the area. Officers observed two individuals in the vehicle, both wearing ski masks.

Officers attempted to make a motor vehicle stop, at which point the Ford Explorer drove over a curb to flee the scene, nearly striking several State Troopers and officers. No officers reported any injuries.

The vehicle continued at a high rate of speed down Mystic Valley Parkway, and State Police put out a radio message alert to other area law enforcement agencies to be on the lookout for the vehicle.

In a subsequent investigation, it was determined that the operator of the Nissan SUV had ran from the scene and then got into the Ford Explorer.

This is a breaking news update. This incident remains under active investigation.
