TYNGSBOROUGH — The Tyngsborough Police Department is remembering Chief Joseph A. Pelletier and Patrol Officer John Peter Georges in observance of National Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day.

National Police Week is recognized each year from May 10 to 16. Peace Officers Memorial Day is recognized each year on May 15. Both days seek to honor the service and sacrifice of law enforcement officers across the nation, especially those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Tyngsborough Police honor and remember the loss of police officers across the country, including two from Tyngsborough whose names are permanently memorialized on the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial in Washington, D.C.

Chief Pelletier was killed in a motorcycle crash while responding to a call for service on Aug. 11, 1930.

Officer Georges died as the result of a blood clot that developed from a leg injury he sustained while rescuing a civilian who had been severely injured in a motor vehicle crash. The clot later traveled to his heart, causing his death on May 8, 2007.

“Both of these men served the Town of Tyngsborough with courage, professionalism, and selfless dedication to others. Their sacrifices, along with the sacrifices of law enforcement officers across this nation, will never be forgotten,” said Chief Shaun Woods. “As we observe National Police Week and Peace Officers Memorial Day, we also recognize the families of fallen officers and thank all current and retired law enforcement professionals for their continued service to their communities.”
