DRACUT — Two women suffered minor injuries when a car crashed through a guardrail on Lakeview Avenue and fell about 25 feet into the shallow waters of Beaver Brook early Thursday morning.

On Thursday, June 11, at approximately 2:10 a.m., the Dracut Police and Fire Departments were called to Lakeview Avenue near Primrose Hill Road for a report of a vehicle in the water.

First responders arrived to find a partially submerged Subaru on its wheels in Beaver Brook, which runs about 25 feet below the roadway in the area.

The driver and a passenger were able to get out of the car on their own, but needed assistance to get up vertical walls around the brook in that area. Dracut Firefighters used ropes to assist both women out of the water and back up to the level of the roadway.

The driver, a 24-year-old Lowell woman, and the passenger, a 24-year-old Newburyport woman, were treated on scene for minor injuries and then transported by Pridestar Trinity EMS to Lowell General Hospital.

Firefighters from the Dracut Fire Department Swift Water Rescue Team donned personal protective equipment and entered the brook to check the vehicle and assist as Martineau’s Towing and RGA Towing worked together to remove the car from the water.

The Dracut Department of Public Works also responded to help secure the area. First responders remained at the scene until about 4:40 a.m.

Dracut Police continue to investigate the crash. No charges have been filed at this time.
