Seekonk High School Holds Annual Honor Society Induction Ceremonies

SEEKONK — They studied with persistence and acted with honor.

Seekonk High School held its annual Honor Society induction ceremonies on Wednesday, April 15.

A large group of Seekonk High School’s top students were inducted into the Spanish Honor Society, Portuguese Honor Society and National Honor Society.

National Honor Society

The Seekonk National Honor Society is a group of determined students who strive to be the next generation of leaders, thinkers and innovators. Students are inducted at the end of junior year and must portray the four pillars — scholarship, leadership, service and character.

Candidates must maintain at least a 90 grade-point average for all four years. Inductees have proven their ability to organize and manage tasks, have helped the community and demonstrated virtuous character.

“The National Honor Society at Seekonk High isn’t just about academic achievement — it’s a community built on leadership, service, and character,” said National Honor Society Advisor and Spanish Teacher Deanna Marinucci. “It truly is inspiring to be surrounded by these students who are committed not only to excellence in the classroom, but to making a real difference in our school and beyond.”

The Portuguese National Honor Society was founded by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese in 1953, for students of North American Secondary Schools. The Seekonk High School chapter — named “Luís Vaz de Camões” — was established in 2015 by Portuguese Teacher Lisa Andrade Almeida. The chapter’s motto is “Together United!” and its colors are maroon and gold.

“These students have truly earned this recognition through their commitment, perseverance and passion,” Almeida said. “Their work reflects more than their academic success, it represents a growing cultural awareness and an ability to connect across generations and communities. Through their studies they are becoming more compassionate, globally minded individuals who will help foster understanding and unity.”

Almeida now serves as advisor to the Portuguese National Honor Society.
