LUNENBURG — The Lunenburg Police Department, as part of its ongoing training initiatives, recently participated in virtual simulator training.

On Monday, Feb. 9, and Friday, Feb. 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Lunenburg Police officers utilized the department’s virtual MILO simulator. MILO — Multiple Interactive Learning Objectives — is a mobile system that can be brought anywhere, including to academies or other departments for training.

The department has had the MILO simulator since November 2024 through state grant funding.

Lunenburg Police require all officers to participate in re-training multiple times each year to maintain and reinforce their skills.

The MILO simulator offers training modules with multiple scenarios and outcomes based on how participants interact and respond to them. Training modules cover a range of complex situations, including dealing with mental-health crises, autism spectrum awareness, responding to active shooter incidents, de-escalation, and more.

“This simulated training allows department members to strengthen their response skills and gain real-life scenario practice,” said Chief Jeffrey Thibodeau. “We are committed to the safety and security of our community, and through our continuous training, we can maintain the highest level of policing practices and adapt to a variety of situations that we may be faced with. I would also like to extend a thank you to State Rep. Michael P. Kushmerek for assisting us in obtaining grant funding that supports us in serving our community.”

Rep. Kushmerek also participated in the trainingon Monday to gain insight into how law enforcement utilizes this type of equipment and simulated training scenarios.
