SOUTH EASTON — Culinary enthusiasts searching for a way to expand their skills need not look any further. Southeastern Technical Institute (STI) is offering a free 300-hour Culinary Arts program to those who meet eligibility standards.

The program, which is free through a grant from the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, is a partnership between MassHire Greater Brockton Career Center, Commonwealth Corporation and STI.

The initiative is an opportunity for people looking to begin or grow a career in the culinary field. It includes a 25-hour externship where participants apply their new knowledge and gain skills in a hands-on work environment. Students have the opportunity to become ServSafe Food Manager Certified, Food Allergen Certified and earn their Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) 10-Hour Card. Training stipends and paid externships are available to participants.

The 10-week course begins in February, with classes held Monday through Thursday, from 4-9:30 p.m.

Interested applicants should contact Victoria Turner at the MassHire Greater Brockton Career Center for more information on eligibility and the course start date. She can be reached at vturnor@masshiregbcc.org or 508-513-3420.

“We are proud to offer this exciting opportunity to the community, and we encourage those who are interested to reach out and learn more about what the program has to offer,” said STI Executive Director Kevin A. Lazaro. “This course teaches the ins and outs of the culinary industry and provides many hours of hands-on experience. The skills students gain in their externships offer invaluable lessons they will carry with them throughout their careers.”
