Town of Groton Police Officer Arrests Driver for Reckless Driving on I-95

GROTON — A Town of Groton Police officer arrested a New Haven man Thursday afternoon after observing him driving at speeds approaching 100 mph.

On Thursday, Jan. 29, at approximately 1:30 p.m., Officer Shawn Lisee was traveling northbound on Interstate 95 in New London when a vehicle passed him at an estimated speed of 100 mph.

As the vehicle entered the Town of Groton near the crest of the bridge, Officer Lisee continued to observe it traveling between 90 and 95 mph while weaving through three lanes of traffic.

The violations occurred in a posted 55 mph zone surrounding the Gold Star Memorial Bridge, an area that regularly experiences heavy traffic.

Officer Lisee conducted a traffic stop near Exit 87 and identified the driver as AMARE BUSH, AGE 20, of NEW HAVEN. A review of Department of Motor Vehicles records showed that BUSH did not possess a valid driver’s license.

BUSH was taken into custody and charged with reckless driving in violation of C.G.S. § 14-222 and operating a motor vehicle without a license in violation of C.G.S. § 14-36(a). He was released after posting a $2,500 cash or surety bond and is scheduled to appear Feb. 15 at GA 10 in New London.

These are allegations. All defendants are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
