NAHANT — Alison Nieto was sworn in as Town Administrator on Monday, making history as the first woman to hold the position.

Nieto, who grew up in Nahant, has worked within the Town since 2021 as Finance Director, and was named Interim Town Administrator during the summer. She was appointed by the Select Board in October following a comprehensive search.

On Monday, Dec. 22, Nieto was officially sworn in as Town Administrator.

“I believe that Alison Nieto is undoubtably the most prepared new Town Administrator Nahant has ever had,” said Board of Selectmen Chair Robert Tibbo. “We are lucky to have her.”

In her role as Finance Director, Nieto has worked with other Town employees to complete reports, coordinate budgets, implement new pay scales, convert accounting software, and more. She will continue to serve that position in addition to Town Administrator until a successor is found.

“Throughout my career here since Alison joined our team, she has been right there helping me through whatever challenge has come forward,” said Nieto’s predecessor Antonio Barletta, now Town Administrator in Manchester-by-the-Sea. “She was always the first call that I made because I knew she had the right advice to give, and she knew it by instinct. I am incredibly proud and incredibly thankful for all of her assistance.”

While holding the position of Interim Town Administrator, Nieto has already made an impact. She has been heavily involved in many Town projects, such as the Short Beach dunes restoration, Forty Steps repairs, library renovations and upcoming townwide paving plans.

She has also prepared Board of Selectmen meeting agendas and attends bi-weekly Board meetings, during which she has presented many issues for consideration.

“I just really love Nahant. I grew up here, my parents grew up here, and I just wanted to continue to work with the staff that’s here that’s really dedicated to the Town,” said Nieto. “I’m really happy to be here and to serve the Town, and I thank everybody for their support.”
