WHITMAN — Whitman Police Chief Timothy Hanlon, Whitman Fire Chief Timothy Clancy and Hanson Fire Chief Robert O’Brien report that the Whitman Police and Fire Departments responded to a crash involving a Hanson Fire Department ambulance that was returning from a call on Tuesday evening.
On Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2025 shortly after 8 p.m., Whitman Police and Fire were dispatched to the intersection of Temple and Beulah Streets for a report of a motor vehicle crash. Upon arrival, first responders found that a Hanson Fire Department ambulance had been involved in a crash with a four-door passenger sedan.
Firefighters attended to the occupants, including a man and two children in the sedan, and two Hanson firefighters, the driver and passenger of the ambulance, both men. The occupants were carefully removed from the two vehicles. The passengers in the sedan were extricated from the vehicle by firefighters using hydraulic rescue tools.
All five occupants were conscious and alert, and they were all transported to area hospitals for evaluation and treatment.
Both vehicles sustained damage. The ambulance, a 2019 Ford F-550, was drivable and will be repaired, and the sedan had to be towed from the scene.
The Hanson ambulance was returning to Hanson from Brockton Hospital, and the crew was in Whitman to return a piece of medical equipment to the Whitman Fire Department that had been used during a prior emergency medical call earlier on Tuesday when the crash occurred, Chief O’Brien of Hanson said.
The crash is under investigation by the Whitman Police Department.
Motorists should expect Temple Street to be closed for several hours Tuesday evening.
