GEORGETOWN — The Georgetown Fire Department is gearing up for another visit from Santa Claus, with this year marking 30 years of holiday cheer with the department’s annual Santa Tour.

Santa will be trading in his sleigh for a Georgetown Fire truck, Squad 1, and will be joined by Mrs. Claus as he flies around town visiting the community on Sunday, Dec. 7, with the help of firefighters and a special Georgetown Police escort.

To help Santa, Georgetown Fire will be collecting toy donations for the Marine Toys for Tots Foundation. Firefighters will be collecting toys throughout the tour and at the station following the event. Last year, Georgetown firefighters collected 4,362 toys for those in need.

Santa will begin his tour at North Street at Web Road, travel 65 miles throughout town, and will finish the tour at Georgetown Fire Station to gear up for his long trip back to the North Pole.

Santa and his helpers will break for lunch around 2:30 p.m., fill up on milk and cookies, then continue the tour. Santa will also be making his grand appearance during the Town’s tree-lighting ceremony at approximately 5:15 p.m. The tour will come to a close around 9 p.m.

Georgetown Fire started collecting toys for the Toys for Tots program in 2000. Since then, the department has become the largest collector of toys in Essex County.

Since 2000, it is believed the department has collected more than 100,000 toys, with 23,000 collected in just the last 6 years alone, thanks to the generosity of the residents of Georgetown.
