Newburyport Police and Fire Actively Searching for Missing Person in Merrimack River

NEWBURYPORT — City Marshal Matthew Simons and Fire Chief Stephen H. Bradbury III report that the Newburyport Police and Fire Departments are actively searching for a missing person in the Merrimack River. 

On Wednesday, Dec. 3, at about 8 a.m., Newburyport Police and Fire responded to reports of a person in the Merrimack River. 

According to witnesses, a person was seen clinging to the side of a small skiff boat in the river. 

First responders located the boat drifting in the river, and are searching for the occupant.

Newburyport Police and Fire, State Police, the U.S. Coast Guard, and other area mutual aid partners have responded on scene and are searching. 

No further information is available at this time.
