Dracut Fire Department Extinguishes Two-Alarm Fire in Parker Avenue Home

DRACUT — The Dracut Fire Department and mutual aid partners responded and extinguished a two-alarm fire in a home on Parker Avenue on Sunday night.

On Sunday, Nov. 2, at approximately 5:11 p.m., the Dracut Fire Department was notified of a possible structure fire at 92 Parker Ave., not far from the Parker Avenue Elementary School.

Companies arrived to find smoke showing from the second floor of a two-story, single-family home. Companies made an aggressive interior attack on the fire, stretching two hose lines into the home’s front door to battle flames on the first and second floor. 

Fire in the home extended through the empty spaces in balloon construction, and extended into the home’s roof area, requiring extensive overhaul from firefighters. A second alarm was struck to bring additional manpower to the scene. 

The fire was under control by about 6:05 p.m. There were no reported injuries.

The home suffered extensive fire damage to the second floor, and fire, water and smoke damage to the first floor. One resident will be displaced. 

Dracut Firefighters were supported at the scene by mutual aid from the Lowell and Pelham, N.H. Fire Departments. The Hudson, N.H., Methuen and Lowell Fire Departments covered Dracut stations. 

The cause remains under investigation by the Dracut Fire Department, but the fire is believed to have started as a chimney fire on the first floor.

“Crews responded to a two-alarm fire in a balloon-frame residence and encountered heavy smoke conditions from the roof line on arrival,” said Chief Cunha. “Due to the age and construction of the building, fire had extended rapidly through concealed spaces. Extensive overhaul was required to ensure all hot spots were extinguished. The fire is believed to have originated in the chimney with extension into the walls. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported, and the residents were able to evacuate safely.”
