ROCKPORT — Rockport Police Chief John Horvath was honored this week with the Massachusetts Chiefs of Police Association’s (MCOPA) Innovative Leader Award during the association’s annual training conference.
Chief Horvath was presented with the award during the annual training conference, which seeks to boost the training and skills of police leaders statewide.
Chief Horvath was honored for his work on MCOPA’s School Safety and Security Committee and Behavioral Threat Assessment & Management (BTAM)/Violence Risk Assessment Committee.
On both committees, Chief Horvath worked with other dedicated members to advance school safety, while raising awareness and building capacity for BTAM efforts in schools and communities.
“The safety and well-being of our students, schools, and communities has always been our guiding principle. This achievement reflects the power of collaboration. The work we’ve accomplished through these committees demonstrates that when law enforcement, educators, and multidisciplinary stakeholders come together with a shared commitment to safety, we can create meaningful solutions that protect those we serve. Our focus has always been on proactive, preventive approaches that strengthen our communities rather than simply responding to incidents after they occur,” said Chief Horvath. “I’m grateful to MCOPA for this recognition and to every committee member who contributed to our success. Most importantly, I’m proud that our collective efforts will help keep Massachusetts schools and communities safer. That is the true measure of our success and the legacy we strive to leave.”
“This recognition reflects Chief Horvath’s exceptional leadership and forward-thinking approach to advancing public safety,” said MCOPA Executive Director and retired Upton Police Chief Michael Bradley. “His contributions as Chairman of the Behavioral Threat Assessment & Management / Violence Risk Assessment Committee and the School Safety & Security Committee have provided chiefs across the Commonwealth with critical resources and direction. Most importantly, his leadership in developing the MCOPA School Safety and Security Best Practices Guide has strengthened school safety and enhanced public confidence in our communities.”
