OGDEN – The Utah Chiefs of Police Association unequivocally condemns the senseless act of violence perpetrated at Utah Valley University in Orem today.
Charlie Kirk, a prominent political commentator, was participating in a student debate at an outdoor venue on the campus when he was shot and killed by an audience member. Kirk’s death was confirmed Wednesday afternoon by President Trump.
We stand united against violence in all of its forms. Free speech and respectful political discourse are vital to ensure the health and vitality of our democracy.
Our member chiefs and agencies have offered their full and unwavering support and resources to our colleagues at the Utah Valley University Police Department. The Department is a state-accredited law enforcement agency, and its members are highly trained professionals who meet all modern requirements, and follow the same policies and procedures required of all sworn Utah law enforcement officers.
The Utah Chiefs of Police Association is confident that the Utah Valley University Police Department and their law enforcement partners will exhaust all efforts in the investigation of this heinous crime and will bring those responsible to justice. Our condolences go out to the Charlie Kirk family.
