Newburyport Police Arrest and Charge Three With Drug Trafficking, Possession

NEWBURYPORT — The Newburyport Police Department arrested three people on charges including drug trafficking and possession following a motor vehicle stop Monday night. 

JAMES BODDY, AGE 39, of DRACUT, was arrested and charged with: 

  • Trafficking Crack/Cocaine in 36 Grams or More
  • Possession with Intent to Distribute of a Class B Drug
  • Possession with Intent to Distribute of a Class A Drug
  • Carrying Dangerous Weapons

CHARLES HAMILTON, AGE 39, of AMESBURY, was arrested and charged with:

  • Trafficking Crack/Cocaine in 36 Grams or More
  • Possession with Intent to Distribute of a Class B Drug
  • Possession with Intent to Distribute of a Class A Drug

SUSAN FOURNIER, AGE 33, of AMESBURY, was arrested and charged with:

  • Trafficking Crack/Cocaine in 36 Grams or More
  • Possession with Intent to Distribute of a Class B Drug
  • Possession with Intent to Distribute of a Class A Drug
  • Resisting Arrest

On Monday, Sept. 8, at about 9:48 p.m., officers patrolling the area of State Street conducted a motor vehicle stop on a black Toyota Scion after observing civil motor vehicle infractions. A preliminary investigation determined that HAMILTON, the Scion’s registered owner, had a suspended driver’s license. 

Police stopped the vehicle on State Street near the intersection with Essex Street. Officers identified the three occupants as HAMILTONFOURNIER, and BODDY, and determined FOURNIER had been driving.

In a subsequent investigation, police identified several bags of white powdery and crystal-like substances in the vehicle. 

Police also learned BODDY was being sought on two active warrants out of Newburyport District Court. 

BODDYHAMILTON, and FOURNIER were all taken into custody and booked at the Newburyport Police Station.

Newburyport Police recovered about 44 grams of crack cocaine, 10 grams of cocaine and 4 grams of fentanyl in the vehicle. Police also recovered a cell phone, five black scales, empty clear plastic baggies, $3,200 cash, and metallic knuckles in BODDY‘s personal items. 

BODDY and HAMILTON were held at the Police Department on $100,000 bail, and FOURNIER was held on $50,000. All three will be arraigned in Newburyport District Court on Tuesday, Sept. 9.
