Town of Bridgewater Announces New Fiscal 2026 Water and Sewer Rates to Support Significant Quality and Infrastructure Upgrades

BRIDGEWATER — The Town of Bridgewater is taking essential steps to improve water quality, comply with state and federal regulatory mandates, and make sure residents have a reliable water supply for years to come.

As part of this plan, new water and sewer rates will take effect in Fiscal Year 2026. The changes are designed to fund more than $51.5 million in planned water system improvements and $66 million in planned sewer system improvements from 2025 to 2029. These improvements include new PFAS treatment facilities, a wastewater treatment plant, well development, water main replacements, tying wells 10A and 10B to the High Street treatment facility to address discoloration issues associated with these wells, and critical storage tank rehabilitations.

The Town is planning an additional $65.5 million in water and $33.2 million in sewer improvements from 2030-34.

“We know how important having clean and safe water is for every resident and business in Bridgewater,” said Department of Public Works Director Azu Etoniru. “These rate changes are an investment in quality, reliability, and the future of our community’s infrastructure.”

The new rate structure, developed after a Water and Sewer Rate Study by consultant Raftelis, follows industry best practices and is based on past billing data. The new structure aligns with community priorities, ensures fairness by charging customers in proportion to the demands they place on the water system, maintains the revenue needed to operate and improve the system, and keeps healthy reserve balances for responsible financial management.

Bridgewater is entering a period of significant capital investments while also experiencing demand for growth and new capacity. Many communities across Plymouth County are facing similar challenges, and Bridgewater’s updated plan is designed to address them in a fair and sustainable way.
