Newburyport Police Respond To Crash Involving Police Motorcycle

NEWBURYPORT — City Marshal Matthew Simons reports that the Newburyport Police Department is investigating a crash involving a vehicle and a police motorcycle. 

NEWBURYPORT — City Marshal Matthew Simons reports that the Newburyport Police Department is investigating a crash involving a vehicle and a police motorcycle. 

On Monday, Aug. 4, at about 11 a.m., the Newburyport Police and Fire Departments, as well as Atlantic Ambulance, were called to the area of 6 Plum Island Turnpike for a report of a crash involving a vehicle and a police motorcycle.

A preliminary investigation determined that an officer was attempting to stop a motor vehicle on the turnpike and was driving with lights and sirens on when the crash occurred. 

The officer was treated for non life-threatening injuries at the scene by EMTs from Atlantic Ambulance, Newbury Fire Department and Newburyport Fire Department. He was transported to a local hospital for further treatment.

The crash remains under investigation by supervisors within the Newburyport Police Department, which is standard procedure for any crash involving a police vehicle.
