On Monday, June 2, Tewksbury Police were dispatched to the area of 95 Main St. for reports of a bag that appeared to contain a white, powdery substance found on the door handle of a vehicle.
During an initial investigation, police determined that the bag, which was later determined to contain 0.6 grams of cocaine, had been placed on the vehicle earlier on the morning of June 2. The bag also had a note attached that included a name and phone number.
In a subsequent investigation conducted by the Tewksbury Police Narcotics Unit on Tuesday, June 3, two vehicles, a Honda Civic and an Infiniti Q50, were determined to be involved in a drug transaction in the area of 95 Main St.
Police initiated motor vehicle stops on both vehicles and arrested ORTEGA BERDUO, MEDINA, and ROMELUS without incident.
During a search of ORTEGA BERDUO‘s person, police found a bag of a white, rock-like substance that was later determined to be 4.0 grams of cocaine. Police also found a turtle in the trunk of the Honda Civic. The turtle was taken into custody by a Tewksbury-Billerica Animal Control Officer.
ORTEGA BERDUO, MEDINA, and ROMELUS will be arraigned in Lowell District Court on Wednesday, June 4.
“The brazenness with which they attempted to lure people to buy drugs by placing samples out in the open is disturbing,” said Chief Columbus. “I’m proud of the work of our patrol division and drug unit, as we will continue to be proactive in holding drug dealers accountable.”
Chief Columbus and the Tewksbury Police Department would also like to thank the Dracut and Billerica Police Departments and the Middlesex County Sheriff’s Office for their assistance in this investigation.
These are allegations. All suspects are innocent until proven guilty.
