HANSON — The Hanson Select Board and Chief Michael Miksch are pleased to announce that Deputy Chief Michael Casey has been appointed the next Police Chief of the Hanson Police Department.
Deputy Chief Casey will begin serving as the Police Chief effective Tuesday, July 1, following Chief Miksch’s retirement on June 30.
“I’m incredibly honored and humbled to be named the next Chief of Police in Hanson — a town that means so much to me,” Deputy Chief Casey said. “This community has always been my home, and I care deeply about the people who live here and the officers I serve alongside. I love this profession and believe in leading with integrity, compassion and a strong sense of duty. I will strive to be the kind of leader who takes care of his people — both the community and the department — and ensures we’re always working together to keep Hanson safe and proud.”
Deputy Chief Casey is a 30-year veteran of the Hanson Police Department. He joined the department as an auxiliary officer in 1995 and became a patrolman in October 1996.
In 2006, Deputy Chief Casey became a shift commander and, later, a patrol supervisor, working his way through the ranks as a Sergeant and Lieutenant.
He was promoted to Deputy Chief in October 2020.
During his career, Deputy Chief Casey created the Hanson Police Department Motorcycle Unit in 1999, played a pivotal role in the acquisition of donations that led to the creation of the motorcycle unit and the purchase of necessary equipment, helped secure most of the funding for the purchase and training of the department’s first comfort dog Ziva and served as the Hanson Police Relief Association Union President, including participation on contract negotiation committees.
Deputy Chief Casey has also served as the Assistant Control Chief of the Southeastern Massachusetts Law Enforcement Council (SEMLEC) Motorcycle Unit since 2017.
“Deputy Chief Michael Casey has been a dedicated and respected leader in our department for years, and I have 100% confidence in his ability to take the reins as our next Police Chief,” Chief Miksch said. “I couldn’t be more proud to see him step into the role — I know the department is in great hands.”
The Hanson Select Board voted unanimously to appoint Deputy Chief Casey as the next Chief.
“On behalf of the Select Board, I want to warmly welcome Deputy Chief Michael Casey as the next Chief of the Hanson Police Department,” Chair Fitzgerald-Kemmett said. “We’re confident in his leadership and excited for the department’s future under his guidance. I also want to extend our deepest appreciation to Chief Michael Miksch for his many years of dedicated service to our community. He has left a lasting impact on the department, and we’re truly grateful.”
