On the evening of Thursday, May 1, Newmarket Police received a call requesting a welfare check. Police responded to the address provided, but no one was home. Police then made a phone call to the subject of the welfare check request, who would not disclose their location.

The subject of the welfare check was located a short time later in Newmarket. The subject of the welfare check disclosed they were the victim of a domestic assault. After receiving information about the suspect, officers began to search for that person, later identified as MCLEAN.

Shortly thereafter, police received a call from a business in downtown Newmarket. The business operator said a man, later identified as MCLEAN, showed up, brandished a firearm and made threats of self-harm, including saying that they wanted to commit “suicide by cop.” Through the investigation it was learned that the man, later identified as MCLEAN, fled into a large mill complex nearby.

Police began a large-scale search for MCLEAN, with assistance from several neighboring communities and the Seacoast Emergency Response Team.

Around 4:10 a.m., on Friday, May 2, MCLEAN was located inside a mill complex in an apartment that was not his. After a brief struggle MCLEAN was taken into custody. He was transported to a local hospital as a precaution.

The events remain under investigation by the Newmarket Police Department.

The Newmarket Police Department reminds the public that all suspects are innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
