Dighton Police Department Welcomes New Officer and Part-Time Dispatcher

DIGHTON — Police Chief George Nichols is pleased to announce that the Dighton Police Department welcomed its newest officer Tyler Lopes.

Officer Lopes was appointed to the Dighton Police Department on Feb. 26 during a meeting of the Board of Selectmen. He was sworn into the position by the Town Clerk Shara Costa the following morning.

Officer Lopes, an Acushnet resident, graduated from Bridge Academy through the Municipal Police Training Committee in Randolph in June 2023.

Prior to joining the Dighton Police Department, Officer Lopes served as a reserve officer for the Acushnet Police Department from 2018 through June 2020. More recently, Officer Lopes worked for a brief period as a police sergeant at Curry College in Milton, and he last worked as a patrol officer at UMass Dartmouth.

Officer Lopes is also a certified firearms instructor and a certified police field training officer.

During the same Feb. 26 meeting of the Board of Selectmen, Dighton resident Angelina Echevarria was appointed as part-time communications dispatcher. Echevarria, a former resident of Fall River, holds an associate’s degree in arts and is currently pursuing a criminal justice degree.

“We’d also like to welcome Angelina aboard and wish her the best on the job in service to our community,” Chief Nichols said.
