BURLINGTON — Chief Thomas P. Browne is pleased to share that the Burlington Police Department’s new Animal Control Officer has been recognized by the Animal Control Officer Association of Massachusetts with a Golden Bone Award.

Animal Control Officer Jamie Jeffrey, who was an animal control officer in Cambridge from 2019 until earlier this month when she joined Burlington Police, was recognized for her work in Cambridge as a “dog-gone good ACO.”

Jeffrey responded to animal-related calls, issued quarantines, monitored the community for dangerous wild animals such as coyotes, and participated in numerous community outreach events, among other duties.

“In recognition of your dedication to your community and the welfare of the animals that reside within, both wild and domestic. For making a difference and being a voice for those animals that can’t speak for themselves,” the award states.

Criteria for the award from the Animal Control Officer Association of Massachusetts include that ACOs be involved in community events, serve as role models to others, and go above and beyond the requirements of the job.

“We are lucky to have Animal Control Officer Jeffrey on board with us here in Burlington, as this award shows the dedication she brought to her previous position as an animal control officer in Cambridge,” said Chief Browne. “I want to congratulate Jamie on this honor.”

Residents in need of services may contact Jeffrey at 781-270-1698 or email jjeffrey@bpd.org.
