WOBURN — Principal Carl Nelson is pleased to share that Kennedy Middle School students have collected and donated nearly 7,000 pounds of food to families in need during the 2023-2024 school year.

Kennedy Middle School received 6,952 pounds of food in donations, equal to approximately 5,800 meals and valued at $13,416.

Amongst the donations, food items consisted of:

  • 2,336 pounds of produce
  • 2,064 pounds of dry goods
  • 1,482 pounds of bakery items
  • 840 pounds of protein
  • 126 pounds of prepared foods
  • 104 pounds of dairy and eggs

All food donations were given to families in need throughout the community through the school’s backpack program.

The backpack program provides boxes of food to families in need, which can either be delivered to them or picked up at the school.

In total, students and staff spent 171 volunteer hours sorting and delivering the food.

With help from Kennedy’s partner FOODLINK and private donations from staff, the school was able to provide to backpack families more than in the previous two years.
